Update 1.35.0

The 2v2 Arena stops being a hidden feature. It now has a public ladder, seasons that roll over on their own, titles handed out when each season closes, and a hub on F5 where you can see your rating, your match history and where you stand. And it can no longer be used to escape a fight you started outside it.

You must update your client to log in. Close the game and the launcher, then reopen the launcher and press PLAY. This update changes how the client and the server talk to each other, so an old client cannot connect at all.

New

  • The 2v2 Arena has a ladder, seasons and titles. The "2v2 Arena" button on F5 no longer requires a party: it opens a hub with the public ranking, your match history, the current season and the titles you have earned.
  • Seasons roll over by themselves and never run out. When a season closes, ratings are compressed toward the middle instead of being wiped, so the new season is winnable and the order you earned still means something.
  • Titles are awarded when a season ends. A tier is only handed out if enough players actually qualified for it, a minimum number of matches is required, and ties share the placement.
  • The Zombie was rebuilt in 3D. New walk, attack and damage animations, and a death where the body breaks apart and falls.
  • A countdown to the Steam release runs on the website.

Improved

  • The launcher downloads updates over many connections at once. Patches are much faster, and the difference is largest in Asia.
  • Downloads can no longer lag the game. Game traffic is now served before update traffic on the server, so a patch day does not cost you your fight.
  • The server restarts itself if it ever hangs. A stuck world loop used to need someone to notice; now it is detected within seconds and recovered.
  • The night is brighter. It was too dark to play comfortably.
  • Beneficial spells snap to a target within 16 pixels. Casting Meditation, a buff or a heal no longer misses through the gaps in a character's outline, and the target's name shows in green instead of red while you cast.
  • Picking up items works properly when several of them share a tile. You get the exact item you clicked on, the one under your cursor even when large icons overlap, and you are told when someone else got there first.
  • The inventory bag can be dragged freely, over the bottom HUD bar and past the edges of the screen, and it draws on top of the HUD instead of disappearing behind it.
  • Depositing a stack into the warehouse offers the full amount, already typed and selected. Press Enter to store it all, or just type to replace it.
  • Helms and hats draw on top of your cape instead of disappearing underneath it, and capes draw on top of your gear when facing south-west instead of vanishing under the armour.
  • Boots fit over trousers instead of letting them poke through, and no longer look out of place while running.
  • The Hero Cape Catalyst asks before destroying your cape and tells you exactly what is lost. Applying an Essence that already carries the Experience/Gold bonus to a cape that also has it is refused instead of silently wasting one.
  • Applying a Hero Cape Essence to the Coin Shop cape keeps its Experience and Gold bonuses instead of erasing them.
  • Blood characters can cast Blood Ritual with a shield equipped.
  • The Warehouse Keeper on Bleeding Island lets you take items out, not just store them.

Fixed

  • Fixed lagging players teleporting across the map. A held-back player now slows down and covers less ground instead of snapping ahead, and gets the "Network Traffic/Lag" warning again while it is happening.
  • The three Tutelary Angels no longer grant +Str/+Int/+Mag. That was a leftover from the old Angelic Pendants; what an Angel gives you is the list on its tooltip: procs, mana save and regeneration.
  • The Holy talent's PvP penalty now applies to every spell instead of only Consecrated Wrath. Consecrated Wrath hits players for the same as before; the rest of a Holy's magic now hits players for less.
  • The Arena can no longer be used to escape a PvP chase. You cannot queue while fighting another player, being hit removes your team from the queue, and you now return to where you entered instead of your town.
  • Bound items can no longer be sold or disenchanted. They can be used, or stored in your personal warehouse.
  • Fixed the Skeleton swinging its sword overhead mid-stride while walking.
  • Fixed nine grass tiles in Promiseland that were drawn on top of characters and never received any light.
